In 2015 The Futures Project created the Cardinal Newman Youth Education Scholarship, which sponsors a full tuition scholarship at Cardinal Newman High School. The four-year scholarship is aimed at providing an educational opportunity to young students that will help them prepare for college.
2015 Recipient - Samra Tekle
Samra is a 2015 graduate of Sonoma Country Day School and is enrolled as a sophomore at Cardinal Newman. Both of her parents immigrated form Eritrea, where her father was a refugee of war. She has a younger brother who attends Sonoma Country Day.
Samra has thrived inside and outside of the classroom at Newman thus far, participating in the Key Club, Class Council and the water polo team. Following high school Samra plans to study science in college and hopes to one day be a physicist. Her other interests include theater, art and reading.
